In general, bread is relatively perishable; it just doesn’t last long before it is molded. Some people put it in the refrigerator to stave off the growth of the mold, and in that sense it helps. But the refrigerating bread is also drying out so you can’t enjoy it anyway.
Bread is best stored in a bread drawer or pantry. If you need to extend your life, freeze it and then toast the slices as needed.
